La "ruminatio" fue una técnica de lectura durante la Edad Media que consistía en que el lector susurraba o murmuraba en voz baja los textos, con el fin de digerir la lectura y aquello aprendido durante el día. El susurro, combinado con la meditación y memorización de los contenidos, pretendía que la lectura se incorporara a la interioridad de quien practicaba la ruminatio.
También la "ruminatio" surgió como una metáfora que describía el movimiento de la boca durante el susurro.

The "ruminatio" was a reading technique during the Middle Ages that consisted in the reader whispering or murmuring the texts in a low voice, with the purpose of digesting what was read and everything learned during the day. The whispering, combined with the meditation and memorization of the contents, intended that what was read was incorporated into the interiority of the person who practiced the ruminatio .
The "ruminatio" also arose as a metaphor for the movement of the mouth during whispering.
